School Visits

Monica is a dynamic educator and storyteller who loves young audiences. She’s comfortable presenting to large and small groups, either in person or virtually. (She’s also available to speak at conferences about writing and teaching.)

Depending on your needs, her visit can include a reading, a presentation about her writing process, a Q & A, and even classroom activities. Both her books open up discussions about difference and connection, friendship and the larger world.

Leo + Lea offers opportunities for STEAM classroom activities. See her guest post at Makin Community for a sense of how Monica incorporates information about the Fibonacci sequence, nature, and poetry into her classroom visits.

Elbert in the Air is a perfect book for opening up discussions that foster social emotional learning with its story of a boy who doesn’t seem to fit in. As School Library Journal says in its starred review, “A fun story with plenty of space left in it to apply it to nearly any discussion about celebrating who you are, especially if you feel different. And don’t we all?”
